Paul M. Guntharp, Jr.
Attorney at Law

Mr. Guntharp attended the University of Florida where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics in 1970.  After graduating from the University of Florida, Paul moved to the Washington, D.C. area where he worked for several computer companies including GTE Information Systems, Inc. and M/A Com, Inc.  During this time, Paul took evening courses and in 1981, was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting by the University of Maryland.  As Paul's professional responsibilities increased, he found himself writing and negotiating contracts with attorneys from other companies and decided to go to law school in the evening while he continued to work.  He received his Juris Doctorate Degree, with Honors, in 1986 from the University of Baltimore in Baltimore, Maryland.  After graduating from law school, Paul decided that he wanted to return to Florida and enter the private practice of law.  After practicing in Ocala and St. Augustine, Paul moved to Flagler County where he has practiced since 1989.

Paul is a member of the Heuisler Honor Society, The Florida Bar, the Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar, The Maryland State Bar Association and the Flagler County Bar Association.  He is admitted to practice in the State Courts of Florida, the State Courts of Maryland and in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

With Paul's business background and education, it was natural for him to represent business clients and practice in the areas of business law.  His representation of clients has run the gamut of possible issues, including contract disputes, collection issues, sale of business and personal guaranty disputes, partnership and corporation disputes, claims by employees and against former employers, non-competition agreements and commercial landlord-tenant disputes, to name a few.

As you can imagine, Flagler County's history of being one of the fastest growing counties in the country has also given Paul the opportunity to practice in the areas of construction lien law, construction defect claims, condominium and cooperative law, zoning and land use and all phases of real property litigation.

Paul's representation is not limited to businesses.  In fact, most of his clients are individuals and, of course, even when representing a business, it is the people who own and run the businesses who are also being represented.  In all areas of his litigation practice, Paul represents individual people against businesses, including contract claims, construction defect and lien law claims, real property claims and Purchase and Sale Agreements.  Paul has successfully sued insurance companies who have denied coverage to his clients and insurance companies that refused to fairly compensate his clients for their losses.

Personal Injury

Paul's first job as a lawyer after he graduated from law school was with a firm that defended insurance companies in personal injury claims.  It did not take long for him to realize that he was on the wrong side.  Ever since leaving that firm in 1988, Paul has been representing people in personal injury and wrongful death claims.  Paul takes great pride in this area of his practice because he believes that he is helping people through some of the most painful and stressful periods of their lives.  You are not a number when you come to our firm.  We genuinely care.

Personal injury cases are taken on a contingency basis, which means that there is no charge for your initial consultation and no charges of any kind for attorneys fees or costs unless we win your case.

Business and Transactional Law

Paul has been writing contracts and negotiating business deals since before he went to law school.  He represents individuals and businesses in real estate and business transactions and prepares contracts, leases, agreements for the purchase and sale of businesses, real estate contracts and options, mortgages and promissory notes, personal guarantees and other transactional documents.  Paul also forms business entities including corporations and limited liability companies.  When Paul forms your business entity, he gives a tutorial on operating the entity and taking advantage of its benefits, at no additional charge.  As in all of his areas of his practice, it is his personal relationship with his clients that comes first.
